President: Matthew Mcgarry
Hello and welcome to PhilSoc!
As El Presidente I keep the gears of PhilSoc turning so that anyone who comes to our great selection of events gets the most out of them.
I’m a 3rd year Philosophy and Linguistics student fascinated by languages our acquisition and understanding of them. You might also hear me muttering about ‘square triangles’, if it’s not possible in this world it might be in another.
Come join the madness, fun and excitement that is PhilSoc!
Secretary: Charlie King
Treasurer: Paul Ferrier
Hello! I’m Paul and I’m the treasurer of the Philosophy Society. Basically that means I’m the guy with the cash; so if you have any suggestions on how money should be spent please get in touch with me!
I am a second year studying Philosophy and Religious Studies. My particular areas of interest are Philosophy of Religion, Mysticism, Spirituality, Eastern Religion and the God Hypothesis. If you’re a lover of any of those topics I would be very keen to discuss them with you! Outwith academic interest I am a motor sport fan, a video gamer and a lover of classic Doctor Who.My ultimate ambition as a member of the Philsoc committee is to transition the popular view of Philosophers being boring or snobby and to promote a diverse range of activities to suit a wide spectrum of interests.
Social Convener: Maarja Jõgioja
|Publicity Officer: Sam Downes|| Second Year rep: Anja Meyer|
Hi there, I am the 2nd year rep. Studying mathematics, but fascinated by philosophy (and basically everything which needs an open mind and which promises new experiences. Traveling for example. But also things like dancing and cooking) In our society no one takes oneself too serious, but we somehow manage great discussions and a lot of other stuff. So just come along and take part
Open Position: Cameron Martin
Life Member: James Wright
I'm a Third Year Philosophy Student. I was voted member-for-life because I have been here for much longer than that. Former Treasurer, Publicity Convener and Secretary, I am the oral historian. I enjoy writing bad jokes. When I graduate I plan to retire.
Translation: The Gronk is a non-human representative of the Philosophy Society, accepting, welcoming, and open-minded. The Gronk is a strong proponent of social contract theory.
